Since 2007, Royal has worked with schools on the Federal Fruit and Vegetable Grant Program (FFVP). We have served as many as 65 FFVP schools since we began. During that time, we introduced students to Cuties™, red bananas, star fruit, rambutan, dragon fruit, cara cara oranges, muscadines and many other interesting and exciting produce products.

We also offer a wide variety of pre-packaged, individually wrapped items such as Pineapple Pals™, watermelon radishes, papaya chunks, jicama sticks and more in support of the FFVP program. You can have almost any product you like packaged in ½ cup servings through our fresh-cut division, FreshSense Foods!

Local produce items from Southeastern Georgia such as blackberries, blueberries, necatarines, strawberries, mandarins, peaches, cantaloupes, watermelon, beets, carrots, collard greens, kale, Vidalia™ onions, and sweet potatoes have also been introduced.

Farm to School MovementFarm-to-School

Join Royal Food Service's Farm To School Program! (pdf)

Royal was one of the first produce distributors to introduce locally-grown produce to Georgia schools. Our School Specialists will work with your staff to inform them of new local produce and the produce that is currently being harvested. We give our School Districts access to our website so they can print from online "farm bios" and our "Local List" publication giving the origin of produce items from our local growing region. Farm bios can be printed and distributed to students to help them appreciate where produce comes from. In support of Farm-to-School, we also send out regular newsletters about farm and market conditions, recall alerts when necessary, and specialties that work well in school cafeterias.

Before the start of the school year, we will meet with you and your staff in order to create a locally grown produce calendar with the specific products that you will be ordering, by month.  A minimum of two commodities will be listed in case there is a crop failure due to weather or other natural disaster.

Greener Fields Together

Greener Fields Together

Greener Fields TogetherRoyal Food Service, as a PRO*ACT distributor, supports Greener Fields Together, a groundbreaking, industry-wide sustainability program for the entire produce value chain. It was created and is administered by PRO*ACT and will be run by PRO*ACT and its national network of independently-owned local purveyors. As a formalized, stand-alone program, Greener Fields Together engages and involves farmers, distributors, foodservice operators and retail locations in efforts to work toward safer produce from seed to fork.

Greener Fields Together has two primary goals: To implement sustainability practices that will improve environmental impact, and, to ensure the availability and safety of produce for foodservice and retail partners in all industry segments.

Greener Fields Together is a program for all supply chain partners, including local, regional and national farmers, PRO*ACT distributors, commercial and noncommercial foodservice customers and retail locations.

Sustainability

Our vision is to provide long term sustainability throughout the produce supply chain. The goal is to strive for continual improvement, looking for opportunities that lessen our impact on the environment, make Royal a great place to work, and contribute to the betterment of our community.

Royal has a full single-stream recycling program in place recycling all office paper, plastics, glass, and other recyclable materials. Recycling containers are located in each office and throughout the facility to encourage participation in reducing the amount of waste sent to the landfill. All cardboard is baled and sent to a recycling facility. Royal recycles all of its cardboard packaging, diverting 90 tons of cardboard form the landfill each year.
